The 108th Amateur Championship was held at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, where the players would tee it up on the East and South courses, with the final 36 holes taking place on the East Course.
The Amateur Championship is one of the oldest and most prestigious amateur golf championships. This year, we crowned our 108th Champion. Continue reading to hear about how the week unfolded!
Qualifying began with over 1,000 players hoping to earn a spot in the championship. In the end, 120 players punched their ticket, joining 48 exempt competitors.
There was a clear divide between the two courses on opening day. Players who teed it up on the East course faced a much tougher challenge. In fact, none of the top 15 scorers came from that side. During the second round, the wind stayed calm giving an early advantage to those on the East Course. But as the day progressed, the fight for a weekend spot intensified. By the end of the round, the leaderboard was crowded, setting the stage for a thrilling moving day.
On the opening day, Colton Swartz delivered a spectacular double eagle on the 9th hole of the South Course. Remarkably, less than 24 hours later, Jake Sherwin matched the feat with a double eagle of his own on the 7th hole of the East Course.
Leading off the day were Pavel Tsar, Charlie Woods, and 2024 Mid-Amateur Champion Jake Sherwin. On the 4th tee, Tsar set the tone early by knocking his tee shot to two feet. Woods followed with a dart of his own, landing it pin-high just four feet away. As Sherwin approached, he joked, “There’s no more room for me.” Moments later, that line became perfect foreshadowing. Sherwin’s tee shot took one hop and dropped straight into the cup for his third career hole-in-one.
As if an ace wasn't memorable enough, it happened right in front of the greatest of all time – Tiger Woods.
Sunday’s final round round came, which featured a tightly contested battle, with the lead constantly changing hands. Greyserman and Sinha continued to trade positions at the top, while several contenders lurked close behind.
Sinha appeared to have slipped from the chase after a double bogey on the 16th, with the difficult 18th hole looming. After a par on the 17th, he needed a birdie to stay alive, and delivered in spectacular fashion. Facing a stiff wind, he crushed a 243-yard 3-wood to within four feet of the hole, tapping in to force a playoff.
In the playoff, both players found the right rough off the tee. Sinha being further from the hole was the first to play from the fairway where he short sided himself short right to a back right hole location. Greyserman tugged his approach. Unfortunately, Sinha proceeded to leave his chip in the bunker while Greyserman chipped up to about five feet.
Greyserman got up and down and calmly tapped in for par to claim the 108th Amateur title.
